Reclaiming Public Space: A Starting Point in a Struggle for the Commons in Zagreb

In Croatia, the struggle over public space in Zagreb and the construction of a common platform created a starting point for an urban process to reclaim the commons. This campaign had a major impact on the referendum against the privatization of highways. Teodor Celakoski will explain the tools and tactical networking methods that were used in this process.

Exposing the Invisible

The digital age has profoundly transformed the way people find and share information. The Internet is enabling collaboration between activists, hackers and journalists on an unprecedented scale. This has led to previously unimaginable possibilities in investigative reporting. People are newly empowered to uncover hidden information, expose corruption and bring the truth to light. Through a series of short films, Exposing the Invisible tells the personal stories of those working at the new frontiers of investigation related to land, nature and other issues. We explore their tools and methods and learn how they manage the risks of information activism.

Reflecting on Camp Pixelache 2014: Promoting a transdisciplinary vision of the commons from an island located in the suburbs of east Helsinki that is being threatened by gentrification

Pixelache is a trans-disciplinary platform for experimental art, design, research and activism, based in Helsinki. This presentation gives an brief introduction of the organisation behind it, and presents as a case-study the latest Camp Pixelache edition which took place in June 2014.

The ZEMOS98 Festival bids us farewell with a night of music and poetry on Saturday, April 18th at the Teatro Alameda. The evening will feature the many voices of Niño de Elche and his band, who will debut their new album Voces del Extremo . Also, openers María Salgado & Fran MM Cabeza de Vaca will invite us to participate in their sonic research project, a «non-concert» called Hacía un Ruido . Tickets to our goodbye party are already on sale for 5€.

Last year, the ZEMOS98 Festival focused on the idea of Europe, where it begins and ends, and what forces shape its media imagery and border control technologies. By Remapping Europe through remix, collaboration and a touch of improvisation, we suggested a Europe that exists beyond the treaties, the violence at the borders and the economic indicators that homogenise us. A Europe of residents, not just nationals. A Europe that contains many Europes.
